WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO THIS WEEK?
This week has been all about this one’s 35th Birthday!
I know, I know. Birthdays are traditionally just a DAY affair. But, I hear more and more about people spreading their birthday over a few days… some even weeks. Some may think it self indulgent but I love the idea! It’s lovely to focus on one person and make them feel special. I love other people’s birthdays more than my own really, I love spoiling them and think it is great that you get to celebrate someone’s time on this planet.
And I really have a lot to celebrate for PB’s Birthday. For one, he is my partner in crime. He’s given me my sons and helped me build our home. And, secondly, he is a complete medical marvel. Doctors diagnosed him at just two days old with a complex heart defect and gave his parents a bleak prognosis. Just a year in fact. As a mother myself, I can’t imagine what they must have felt and faced. Both at that moment and throughout his years of operations, hospital stays and appointments. He himself is the most amazing man and has born it all with such dignity and bravery. And he proved them all wrong…
Because this week, he has had his 35th Birthday! I treated him, myself and the boys to a trip up the Brighton i360 Tower and it was brilliant! Amazing views, all the way across Brighton and Hove and out to sea. The fact I forgot that PB has an intense fear of heights was a little bit unfortunate… just what you want to do to a cardiac patient, give them the fright of their life by taking them 450ft up in the air!
But, despite being quiet in the beginning, the sight of our toddler Teddy running around the pod with excitement and completely fearless showed PB that, ultimately, there was nothing to be scared of and he was inspired to get over his fears and enjoy the experience. We had a great time and got some lovely photos.
It’s just been a lovely week in general really. We’ve seen friends and family. Eaten lovely dinners and enjoyed lots of giggles. Especially today, Sunday, as we have come to my Mum in Law’s house for a Sunday Roast. Baby George has picked up on all the excitement (and even secretly scoffed a bit of birthday cake when we haven’t been looking!) this week and has not been sleeping well. Last night alone, I was awake until 3am! Brutal.
Additional Information and Findings from this week:
- George is full on crawling now. On the one hand, it has made life easier as he happier to be left on his own to play for longer as he can get to wherever he wants to go and no longer screams at us in frustration. On the other hand, we have to have eyes in the back of our heads and the little rascal is quick and inquisitive. Hence him helping himself to cake!
- Teddy is fast becoming my helper at home. I have been teaching him how to stack the dishwasher, load the washing machine, fetch things from the fridge and he also knows how to turn the hoover on and off as I go. As much as it sounds like I am exploiting him for slave labour, I’ve found it helps me get jobs done quicker and quieter if I include him not to mention that I am aiming to raise two independent boys who know their way around the house. Takes the patience of a saint but it’ll be worth it in the long run!
- I miss sleep. So much. I can’t remember what it feels like to sleep for a full 8 hours anymore. Am currently fighting a tired ache across one eye and keep doing silly things like miscounting how may place settings to lay at the dinner table, putting clothing on backwards and forgetting what day it is. I did #FF (follow Friday) on twitter this week… and it was, in fact, Thursday. What a ditz?!
- Spider watch continues in our house. They’re getting bigger and hairier by the day! I bravely rescued one from the bath tub one morning, mostly because I could get over my initial ‘Squish it reflex’ and pick it up with a tissue. But the following morning one took me by surprise as it crawled up the bathroom wall in front of me and I lashed out with my hairbrush. Poor Spidey, they really need to hide better!
